Cummins, who is already missing the Test series in Sri Lanka due to the upcoming birth of his child, is now dealing with ankle pain, Cricket Australia confirmed on Thursday.

The extent of the injury remains unclear, leaving doubts about his availability for Australia’s opening match of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan on February 22.

"We'll have to wait and see when that scan comes back and see how it's tracking. There's a little bit of work to do. We'll probably get a bit more information around where that's at." chief selector George Bailey said.

Cummins' potential absence would be a significant setback for Australia, who have been targeting the Champions Trophy as a major goal since their triumph in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
