BCCI is set to allow Indian Premier League (IPL) teams to have five retentions each and the option of using one right-to-match card during the IPL 2025 auction.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the IPL is most likely to approve the option as soon as it finalises the retention rules ahead of the mega auction for the 2025 season.
The number of Indian players that can be retained and whether there will be a limit on retained overseas players is still uncertain.
The retention slabs and the total purse amount have not been confirmed, but it is expected to be around the INR 115-120 crore mark.
In the 2022 auction, four players were allowed to be retained ahead of the auction. Teams were asked not more than three Indian and two overseas stars.
The Right to Match (RTM) option, which allowed franchises to buy back their players by matching the highest bid made by another franchise during the auction, has been removed by the IPL ahead of the 2022 mega auction.
