Nazmul Hasan Papon stepped down as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president on Wednesday after serving the board for over a decade.
BCB Board of Directors held a meeting under the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday. It was learnt that Papon joined them via video call from London and announced his resignation from the role.
Former Bangladesh captain and chief selector Faruk Ahmed has been appointed as the new head of BCB. He was the front runner to take up the role since the sudden departure of Papon from the country.
In the video released by BCB, the newly elected president stated, 'The goal is very ambitious. The primary and most crucial objective is to enhance the country's reputation and image. I want to see the team in a highly favorable position. We need to achieve significant accomplishments. We must work on various fronts. You are aware that there has been ongoing work, but there are still unresolved issues.'
Faruk served as the chief selector of BCB for two terms from 2003 to 2007, and second from 2013 to 2016.
Earlier, BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus resigned as board director of the National Sports Council (NSC). Following that, Faruk Ahmed was nominated by the NSC to replace Jalal on the board.
Another BCB director Sazzadul Alam Boby was scrapped from his role in BCB to make way for Nazmul Abedin Fahim as the replacement.
