Bangladesh cutter master Mustafizur Rahman expressed his excitement about playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the first time in the IPL, stating it was his ‘dream’ to feature for the five-time champions.
Mustafiz has played for five different franchises in the cash-rich league with the inaugural season for Sunrisers Hyderabad where he won the Emerging Cricketer award in 2016.
“This is my first time in Chennai. Ever since I made my IPL debut, especially when I first played in the IPL in 2016, it was my dream to play for Chennai. When I got the call, I couldn't sleep that night,” said Mustafiz in a video.
“The next day, I had a game to play, and I was in New Zealand at that time. I only slept for about an hour that night. Then I saw the messages start coming in. It was 1 AM in New Zealand, and that's when the auction started. I kept getting messages. Everyone was congratulating me, saying I had been selected to play for Chennai,” he said.
Mustafiz regained his form in the ongoing IPL, impressively claiming 12 wickets in seven matches. Fizz attributed his success to the guidance he received from MS Dhoni and the team's bowling coach, Dwayne Bravo, throughout the tournament.
“Everyone is very friendly like the national team. I have never felt uneasy here from day one. I think that's a great thing about Chennai. Mahi bhai [MS Dhoni] mentioned some fielding setups, and Bravo [DJ Bravo] talked about a few fielding setups for the death overs. These little things have been really helpful,”
“Usually, I don't talk much about bowling outside the field. Most of the conversations happen on the field, like what would happen if we did this or that. Mahi bhai would come over and tell me,” he added.
