Bangladesh bowling coach Andre Adams lauded young pacer Nahid Rana for his impressive performance in his debut against Sri Lanka in the ongoing first Test.
Rana’s late onslaught on the opening Day of the first Test saw Sri Lanka down to 280 in the first innings. The 17-year-old pacer marked continuous 140+ deliveries against the Sri Lankan batters, returning a figure of 14-2-87-3.
Rana shone on his debut by taking the prized wicket of Kamindu Mendis to break the 202-run partnership, bringing an end to the innings of Kamindu after a valiant 102 off 127 balls with 11 boundaries and 3 sixes. Following that, Rana got another centurion Dhananjaya de Silva out on 102.
He claimed his third wicket by dismissing Prabath Jayasuriya to complete his maiden three-wicket haul.
"He is talented. He is fast. He bowled almost every ball at 145kph. He has a beautiful action. He is just so raw. He has a lot to learn but he is very talented," said Adams.
The new bowling coach was pleased with how well Rana and Khaled Ahmed complemented each other as a fast-bowling pair.
"They were good in parts. There was partnership bowling throughout the day. Rana bowled very well in partnership with Khaled at the start. But then relaxed the pressure aspect. It wasn't until the two spinners came on that we gained control of the scorecard. I thought Rana was outstanding, especially on debut," he said.
Bangladesh are currently struggling on 32-3, trailing by 248 runs at the end of the first day’s play.
