West Indies and Chattogram Challengers all-rounder Romario Shephard heaped praises on Tanzid Tamim for his exceptional performance in the ongoing BPL, stating he’s a ‘great prospect’ for the Bangladesh team.
sTanzid struck his maiden century in BPL which propelled Chattogram Challenger to crush Khulna Tigers by 65 runs to seal a spot in the playoffs.
Tanzid blasted a 65 ball-116, featuring eight fours and as many sixes to guide the side to a daunting 192-4, which their bowlers defended successfully in batting-favourable wicket when they wrapped up Khulna's innings for 127 in 19.5 overs.
“That was one of the more professional innings I have seen with my eyes, one of the best hundred that I've seen under pressure, knowing that if you lost the game, we were being out of the competition. I know the way he played. You always look like you have more time at the battles, and he has been playing very well,” said Romario.
“I think he's a great prospect for Bangladesh going forward because he's young and to see the way he keeps going deeper and deeper and deeper and all that good for any youngster,” he said.
Romario was optimistic about their eliminator match against Fortune Barishal, he believe if they can perform collectively as a team they can ensure the win.
“We've been playing a as a team. We've been playing more than a lot of people expected. That's the importance of playing as a team, because one day one guy might not get it and the next day one guy might pull up the slack. So when you play as a team, you are more dangerous than depending on one guy to get a score,” he said.
Romario highlighted the hunger and enthusiasm of the young local talents in the Chattogram team. He noted the trend of players stepping up to challenges in each game, citing Tanzid as a recent standout performer.
“We have some good local who is hungry. And that's the most important thing for the youngsters coming to being hungry. Accepting opportunity with both hands. And that's what's been happening in our team. In each game, you see someone who's stepping up to the Challenge. Last game, it was Tanzid, two games back to back now, is the young opener,”
“So hopefully we can get something above power. The bowling has been doing well. So it's just the opportunity for us to continue in the bowling department, and hopefully the batters defend us,” he added.
