New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner believes they can make a comeback on Day Two if they can build small partnerships against Bangladesh spinners.

New Zealand reeled on 55-5 at stumps after restricting Bangladesh to 172 in the notorious Mirpur’s wicket. However, the left-arm spinner feels that even the 30-run partnerships will be equal to 80-90 on such a challenging surface.

“We know it's going to be a challenge. We just talked about trying to build those partnerships. Whoever comes in, it might not be an 80 or 90 but it might be a quick like a 30. And building those partnerships and try to get to a level score and then scrap again. It's going to be a bit of a fight for the next few days, no doubt,” said Santner during the post-match conference.

Santner also grieved on Mushfiqur Rahim’s unusual wicket as he was dismissed by obstructing the ball when he tried to defend the ball going wide of the wickets even though it was not heading towards the wickets.

“Yeah, it's probably not a great option, because he was looking so good. I mean it was handy for us in terms of the time him and Dipu applied themselves and that was a very good partnership for them,” he added.
