Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal stated that there is no such thing called 'auto choice' in the national team and every player has earned their spot by proving their merit.
Speaking to the media after the second ODI defeat by 132 runs, Tamim stated that there is no such thing as an auto-choice and that even he, as captain, is not excused from performing consistently to maintain his spot in the team.
Mustafizur has been going through poor form in international cricket, the cutter master has gone wicket-less in the two ODI of the ongoing series. However, the captain emphasized that the team has faith in Mustafizur's abilities, particularly his defensive skills.

"There is no such thing as auto-choice. There is no one in this group, I am not auto-choice either. If I don't perform consistently, even though I'm the captain of the team... I won't be in the team," Tamim told the media while defending Mustafizur.

The comments came after Mustafizur was criticized by some sections of the media and fans for being an "auto-choice" in the Bangladesh cricket team.
"It's just that we have a lot of faith in him (Mustafizur). I think he can give his best, he has done it before. He has very good defensive skills but may need to improve his wicket-taking skills. Sometimes a player will not go to the same graph, but I have faith in him. I believe he will turn around," he said.
When he was asked about Mahmudullah's poor form in the ODIs, Tamim was irked and stood against the question and requested not to pressure his teammates as he himself never questions them.
"I don't like to say things over and over again. He played a match-winning inning before this series. If the same question is asked every time in a series it won't be healthy for the team. They are the players of your own country. I will also say that we all have the opportunity to do better, in all aspects. I'm the captain of this team, I never like to point fingers at anyone, I'm here to support them," he added.
