Michael Clarke believes that giving David Warner captaincy in the latter stages of his career is a bad idea.
Warner was barred from holding any leadership positions following his involvement in the 2018 Papergate scandal. Many people have been calling for the ban on the Australian opener to be lifted in recent months.
Clarke, on the other hand, believes that giving Warner the captaincy now would be more of a public relations move. According to the Daily Mail, the former Australia captain believes that giving Warner the leadership role at the age of 36 is not a wise decision.

"Tactically Davey is very good. I've watched him do the IPL and he's been brilliant – one of the best – but at 36 years of age, I'd be very surprised if they go that way," said Clarke.

"I think they've made it pretty clear what they feel. If you're fighting for Davey to be captain, it's for marketing reasons."
"I don't think the BBL [Big Bash League] is the right opportunity for Davey to captain. I know he hasn't been campaigning but he hasn't shut it off, either. I think this story should disappear, fade away" he added.
Clarke also said that Australia should be promoting youngsters like Cameron Green to take up more responsibility and the team management should have had a few players ready to take up captaincy by now.
