Bangladesh T20 technical consultant Sridharan Sriram stated that now is the time to consider Mahmudullah Riyad's replacement as the veteran cricketer was left out of the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, which is set to begin in mid-October this year.
To explain Riyad's exclusion, Sriram cited former India cricketer and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The 36-year-old had long served as the Tigers' finisher, just like Dhoni did for his national team, batting in the important middle or late-middle order.
“I think our cricket team needs to have a succession plan. I have always equated Mahmudullah with MS Dhoni with the role that he performs for the team. He batted at No. six just like Dhoni has done for India. He has finished off games. Dhoni cannot go on forever and ever,” Sriram added while speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Sriram, the Bangladesh team's technical consultant, believes that the time has come to identify Mahmudullah's replacement.
“You need to have a succession plan for who after. I think this was the right time to think of someone who can fill in Mahmudullah’s big shoes. You need someone. Unless we start playing players in that role, we won’t find them” he added.
