Russell Domingo, the head coach of the Test and ODI teams, spoke openly about various aspects of Bangladesh cricket in an interview with a leading local Daily, Prothom Alo, published on Wednesday.

In that interview, he stated that cricketers are constantly scolded by the board as he also said that he thinks that this external pressure is also affecting the performance of the cricketers.

"In the last eight to 10 years, cricketers did not get this kind of coaching and they cannot think anything on their own because the board scolds them and the director of coaching (Khaled Mahmud) scolds them and they were told in every step what they need to do and this is the biggest challenge of Bangladesh cricket because cricketers cannot think anything on their own," Domingo said.

"I did not want to give them total freedom but I don't think you can have big benefit by screaming because when you are making a mistake if you criticize them harshly you cannot get the best out of them and I didn't want to do that (criticize) because cricketers need time to learn from their mistakes and take their own decisions” he added.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not taken these words lightly as the board will seek an explanation from the South African in this regard, said Jalal Yunus, head of BCB's cricket operations chairman.

"Domingo's behavior is not acceptable. I have informed the president (Nazmul Hasan Papon). He (Domingo) should be given notice. But it is not a show cause notice. He needs to clear things up. We will look into the matter. Then we will decide about him," Jalal said to reporters in his office.

The board member also denied the allegations that they put pressure on the cricketers.

"I don't talk to any cricketer during the series. He said to me or someone else, let's know that first. But it is not positive. He needs to clear this up. The language that Domingo used ‘scolding’ is offensive" he added.

BCB recently dropped Russell Domingo from the T20 squad after a string of poor results, including only two wins in 13 games following the ICC T20 World Cup.

Domingo has already left to his country for vacation. He is scheduled to return to work with the Bangladesh 'A' team's series against the Afghanistan 'A' team next October. The series will be held in the United Arab Emirates. He will work with several batters of the Test team there.
