Mominul Haque, Bangladesh's Test captain, has backed his batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who played reverse sweep and was removed at a vital stage, costing the team dearly.
Right-handed veteran Bangladesh batter has received a lot of flak throughout his career for choosing to play the shot that lost him his wicket at vital moments in the game and placed the team in trouble on several occasions. Mushfiq faced a similar position in the recently finished second Test against South Africa.

On day three of the game, Mushfiq, despite being the last established batter, initiated the freefall by gifting his wicket to the opposition by playing his famed reverse sweep shortly after scoring a hard-earned half-century.

Bangladesh went on to lose the game by 332 runs on day four after being restricted to 80 runs in the second innings only the second time in the series that they had been all-out for less than 100 runs.
Khaled Mahmud, the Bangladesh cricket team's director, had slammed Mushfiq's mentality and judgment to take such a risky shot at such a crucial stage of the game, but Mominul has defended the senior Bangladesh batter.
“I think you all are speaking about it a bit much. You can speak of it but reverse sweep is part of cricket, isn’t it? Is it something out of cricket? He has been successful playing this shot so it can be part of his game plan. It is not that he has never scored runs playing this shot. I think we should support him. I support him on this,” said Mominul to the media Monday.
“Like I have already said, he is successful in playing this shot. We all have seen that. I will request you for the betterment of the Bangladesh team, it will harm Mushfiq bhai, the team and the country if you speak a lot about this. It is his go to shot to score runs and he is successful,” said the Bangladesh Test captain.
