Mehidy Hasan Miraz hits a crucial century, Cricfrenzy

Bangladesh have got the awaited victory in South Africa as the visitors crushed Proteas by 38 runs in the opening match of the three-match ODI series at SuperSport Park, Centurion Friday.

In 20 years, South Africa had never given Bangladesh a chance to win at their home ground but that barrier has broken now after an all-round performance by the Tigers.

The red and green team had posted a mammoth total of 314 to grab another 10 points in ICC Super League, who were at top of the table with 100 points before the match.

With the second and penultimate ODI scheduled for Sunday, South Africa were all out for 276 with seven balls to spare, giving Bangladesh a 1-0 lead.

Taskin Ahmed (3/36) was outstanding with his impactful spells, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4/61) did great to come back and take up four wickets after going for runs instantly.

In a high-scoring encounter, Taskin's brave effort of giving only 36 runs in 10 overs was impressive, and he was aided by young fast Shariful Islam (2/47).

Rassie van der Dussen top-scored for the hosts with a 98-ball 86 that included nine fours and a six, while David Miller hit eight fours and three sixes in his 59-79.

The Proteas had a glimmer of optimism when these two were playing well together, but the Tigers eventually snuffed out both threats.

Earlier, Liton Das, Shakib al Hasan, and Yasir Ali Rabbi all scored half-centuries, while skipper Tamim Iqbal scored 41 and put together a 95-run partnership with Liton to set the tone for his team.

Despite a few stumbles in the middle, Shakib and Yasir led the ship to a magnificent century stand, laying the groundwork for a late onslaught.

In the end, useful blows from Mahmudullah (25), Afif Dhrubo (17), Mehidy (19), and Taskin (7) helped the Tigers to a commanding total of 314 for seven in fifty overs, which was their highest total in South Africa.

‘Banglar Nabab’ Shakib hit his ODI’s fiftieth fifty as he scored 64-ball 77 and demonstrated his class under pressure. Three powerful sixes and seven fours were hammered by the Southpaw, who used his bottom hand to great advantage.

Yasir got his maiden ODI fifty from 44 balls, while Liton has hit his fifth fifty, both got out for 50.

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi both had decent opening spells but went for a beating later in the innings. Both pacers and Andile Phehlukwayo bagged a wicket each while Marco Jansen scalped two alongside Keshav Maharaj.
