The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Tuesday announced its new code of laws for 2022, making significant changes for the first time since 2017.
MCC made 'no saliva' rule permanent in world cricket, and also the infamous 'mankad' being moved from the 'unfair play' category to the 'run out' section.
The changes to the 'Laws of Cricket' were suggested by the MCC Laws sub-committee and were approved by the club's main committee last week. The changes will come into effect from October 1.

Law 41.16 – running out the non-striker – has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out). The wording of the Law remains the same,” MCC said in a press release.
In another important change, the MCC said when a batter is out caught, the new player in will come in at the end the striker was at and face the next ball unless it is the end of an over. It no longer matters whether the batters crossed while the catch was being taken.
The use of saliva on the ball, will be treated the same way as any other unfair methods of changing the condition of the ball.
"The new Laws will not permit the use of saliva on the ball, which also removes any grey areas of fielders eating sugary sweets to alter their saliva to apply to the ball. Using saliva will be treated the same way as any other unfair methods of changing the condition of the ball," the statement from MCC read.
