The first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction has concluded. Ishan Kishan became the most expensive buy, returning to Mumbai Indians for Rs 15.25 crore after Deepak Chahar was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crore and Shreyas Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 crore.


Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga (RCB), Nicholas Pooran (SRH) and Shardul Thakur (DC) were all bought Rs 10.75 crore each. Uncapped players Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan were sold for 9 crore each.


Cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman was bought by Delhi Capitals at the base price of 2 crores. Fizz will be joined by stars including David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, captain Rishab Pant and others.


The left-arm pacer played for Rajashthan Royals in the previous edition of IPL, he also represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and 2017 seasons and Mumbai Indians in the 2018 season.


Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib remained unsold in the first round of mega auction. Steve Smith, David Miller, Suresh Raina were also unsold.


Avesh Khan became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL. He was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 10 crores.


The mega auction 2022 was paused mid-way after auctioneer Hugh Edmeades had collapsed during the auction. 


Edmeades, who has been performing the role since the 2018 auction, had suffered low blood pressure, and was quickly attended by the medical team. The incident occurred during the bidding of Wanindu Hasaranga.


A total of 10 teams has participated in the IPL auction and each team was allocated a pool of INR 90 Crores to formulate their squads. A total of 600 players went under the hammer in a 2-day affair consisting of 377 Indians and 223 overseas.
