Bangladesh broke their losing streak, defeating New Zealand away from home in the first of two-match Test series. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was pleased that his side was able to win despite the absence of the star all-rounder.
Shakib responded positively following the Test victory over the Kiwis, who were unbeaten for 32 matches at home. The all-rounder, who attended a mobile company ceremony on Friday, stated that the Bangladesh media believes there are no other cricketers except four or five seniors without whom the Tigers can’t perform.
“Of course, it is great, our media always thinks that we do not have cricketers in the team except four or five seniors. It was proved wrong. If this team is given the responsibility, they will do better in the future,” said Shakib.

Shakib did not take part in the ongoing Test series due to personal reasons, however, he said it was a big achievement for the team. He hailed the cricketers and coaching staff for the massive win against the current WTC champions.
“I am really happy that the team won without me, not just without me, it’s not a big deal that I wasn’t there with the team. I am very proud of every cricketer and coaching staff,” he said.
Shakib said that winning one match will not change everything. However, he believes it will create more opportunities and the Tigers can do well in the World Test Championship if they maintain their current momentum.
“Winning a Test match doesn't really change everything. But with this victory, a lot can happen. So, the possibility has been created, now if we can keep up the momentum, especially if BCB can have this faith, then we can do something very good in this Test Championship,” he added.
