Bangladesh climbs to No.5 in WTC points table

After an emphatic win over New Zealand by 8 wickets, Bangladesh has moved up in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC). The Tigers have risen to the top five of the updated points table till January 5.


Bangladesh had built a 130-run lead before their first innings folded for 458 on Tuesday with half-centuries for Mominul Haque (88), Liton Das (86), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (78) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (64). The Kiwis were bowled out for 169 in the second innings and 328 in the first innings.


Bangladesh needed only 40 runs to win the first Test of the series. Mominul's team easily surpassed the target, losing 2 wickets.

Bangladesh added 12 points as per the rules in the points table leaving New Zealand, England and South Africa behind.


Australia tops the list with 36 points from 3 wins. Sri Lanka has 24 points. Although Pakistan has 36 points and India has 53 points, Pakistan lags behind in terms of winning percentage. 


Bangladesh finished the inaugural WTC at the bottom of the points table. The Tigers were at the bottom of the table after a two-match Test series loss against Pakistan at home.
