Liton Das' outstanding maiden Test ton was lauded by Bangladesh batting coach Ashwell Prince. The coach stated that the T20 and Test formats are completely different and that players should not be compared in the formats.

Liton hit his maiden Test century and redeemed himself from the recently concluded T20 World Cup failure on the opening day. He was unbeaten on 113 runs off 225 balls.

“I think anybody watching Liton Das bat can see he is a class batsman. Today the guy showed he is a class batsman. He made 95 in his last Test. He was unlucky not to get a hundred. He went one step further and over the line today, in terms of his personal milestone,” said Prince.

Meanwhile, Prince has said that he don't want to judge Liton based on his T20 performance and that he does not understand why the Test and T20 formats are being compared.

“I don’t understand why there’s so much comparison between T20s and Tests. There are no comparison. The guy has time to bat in Tests. It is a completely different batting mentality in T20s. If we talk about Tests, let’s talk about how he constructed his innings today. He was solid in defence. He was decisive in leaving balls outside the stump. He was committed and positive when playing an attacking shot,” he said.

Bangladesh were in 49-4 when Mushiqur Rahim and Liton hit an unbeaten 204-run partnership for the fifth wicket stand, which took them to 253-4 at the end of the day. Prince praised the way the batters took control of the game.

“I am proud of the character that they have showed with their backs to the wall. Sometimes, as a coach, you looks at the technical attributes of the players. But I was pleased with the mental application. 50 for 4 is a tough time to come to the crease in a Test match. When you find yourself in a tough situation, you have to be mentally strong. You have to believe you can bat your team out of that position, and into a better position,” he added.
