While many major cricketing nations incurred financial losses as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan Papon stated that the board was one of the few to suffer just minor consequences.

According to the BCB boss, the country's cricket governing body has experienced a rise in revenue.

“The board funds increased and this has been due to its earning. All our sponsors are from the local market, none is from outside Bangladesh. We earn very less [compared to the other cricket boards] but still we have been able to create an FDR [fixed deposit receipt] of Tk 900 crore in the last two terms,” said Nazmul to the media Saturday.

The sale of television rights, sponsorships, international series, and tournaments are the main sources of revenue for BCB. It also benefits when the national team does well in International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council competitions.

The Bangladesh Premier League, a profitable local T20 tournament, also brings in a lot of money for the board.

The earnings from the FDR cover the majority of the company's expenses, according to Papon.

The BCB had supported 23 sports organizations of the country affected by the Covid-19 pandemic last year with Tk50 lakhs.
