Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon said that their only failure in the last four years is unable to implement regional cricket properly across the country.

After four years, the annual general meeting (AGM) was held in the capital’s renowned hotel Radisson on Thursday, where about 166 councilors from all over the country were present.

“The last time we said we will work with the pipeline. We worked according to the plan and we succeeded. We are not saying that we will be the World Cup champion, at least we can reach the final. We knew it, we had faith. No one should have any doubts regarding the pipeline. But regional cricket is our only failure. We couldn't do it the way we planned,” said Papon.

The board was criticized for failing to form a regional cricket body. In this regard, the Board President assured, “We had planned to launch regional cricket associations and even started off proceedings in Chattogram and Sylhet. But we've failed to create full-fledged cricket associations. We'll subsequently expand this program up to district level,"

The board president also said that the BCB wants to increase the number of grounds to expand cricket in the country.

"We want to buy cricket grounds, not stadiums. Wherever we get, we will buy cricket grounds. The stadium is expensive to maintain. That's why we want to buy cricket grounds. Where cricket will be played regularly,” he added.
