The Pallekele Test is on the verge of a draw as the first innings of the two teams is not over yet. However, Sri Lanka head coach Mickey Arthur said they are still thinking of winning the first Test against Bangladesh. Arthur sees Wanindu Hasaranga as a trump card to defeat Bangladesh on the fifth day.
Before the start of the Test, it was thought that the fast bowlers would get extra benefits from the wicket. Despite taking 10 wickets in the first three days, Bangladesh bowlers were wicket less on the fourth day.
Sri Lanka batsmen have taken advantage of the wicket. In reply to Bangladesh's 541 in the first innings, Sri Lanka scored 512 for 3 at the end of the fourth day. They are only 29 runs behind Bangladesh. Though the chances are slim, the Sri Lankan head coach is still not giving up hope of winning.
"We're certainly thinking about winning, that's how we want to play our cricket. That's such an important culture to inculcate in a dressing room. We're not here to make up the numbers." said head coach Mickey Arthur after stumps on day four.
Arthur wants to make Hasaranga a trump card on the fifth day of the two-match Test series. "The pace bowlers will explode with the new ball. But if we can move closer tomorrow, Wanindu Hasaranga will take us a bit more closer. I don’t want to put too much pressure. I believe he's a great player," Arthur added.
