The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 21-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour on Friday [April 9]. Three uncapped players were added in the squad including all-rounder Shuvagata Hom, who also made a return after a long break in the Test squad.

In 2016, Shuvagata played a test against England. He was called up twice to the ODI and T20 squads but did not return in the Tests. Since losing his spot in the national team, he has done well in domestic cricket.

Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the chief selector of the Bangladesh national team, thinks that the all-rounder can perform with both bat and ball if he gets a chance in the XI.

"Shuvagata is coming back after a while but he has been a consistent performer in first-class cricket. We have considered him as a batting all-rounder but his off-break is pretty handy also and gives us an option in the spin department," said Nannu.

Bangladesh took 3 young pacers Shoriful Islam, Mukidul Islam Mugdho and Shohidul Islam in the team, the chief selector thinks it would help their preparation and also give exposure for the longer version cricket.

"They (Shoriful, Mukidul and Shohidul) have been in our HP set up and have impressed in whichever version they have played in. Mukidul and Shohidul in particular, have caught the eye in domestic first-class this season and are future Test prospects. They all have age on their side and are talented," Nannu.
