Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is in Mumbai for the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is slated to begin from April 9. The Tiger all-rounder said in a live chat on Friday [April 2], that the Kolkata Knight Riders would win the title if he could take 25 wickets for the team.
The two-time IPL title-winning team (KKR) has recruited Shakib for Rs 3 crore 20 lakh from the auction which was held on February 18. He played for KKR in the previous season of 2012 and 2014.
Shakib was asked in the live chat if he wants to score 500 runs or take 25 wickets this IPL season. Shakib replied that he wants to take more than 25 wickets. Kolkata would not win the title if Shakib scores 500 runs. Shakib, on the other hand, claims that if he can take more than 25 wickets, his team would win the trophy.
“More than 25 wickets. I think 500 runs is definitely a big achievement. It does not guarantee that you will win the trophy. If I can take 25 wickets then we are certain to win the trophy. If I can do both, it will be good for KKR and me,” he said.
The team has failed to make it to the playoffs twice in a row since Gautam Gambhir stepped down as the captain. Shakib thinks that this time it will change under the KKR captain Eoin Morgan.
