Former Proteas fast bowler Makhaya Ntini has revealed he still wants to coach at the highest level but doesn’t think it will be with South Africa. According to Ntini, Cricket South Africa (CSA) director of cricket Graeme Smith will never call him to coach the Proteas.

The 43-year-old was appointed as interim coach of the Zimbabwean national cricket team on a two-year deal in January 2016 for the home series against India. However, Ntini was then shown the exit door in January 2018 for wanting to do things on his own way.

He’s currently doing cricket commentary and the former proteas bowler wants to return to coaching, but he doesn’t think it will be with the Proteas.

“I’m still interested in coaching. I enjoyed my time with Zimbabwe, it’s a pity I was fired for wanting to do things right,” said Ntini in an interview with SAFM.

“But Graeme Smith will never call me for South Africa. He doesn’t like stubborn people. So, I don’t think I’ll be part of the Proteas coaching staff,” added Ntini.
