Bangladesh left hand batsman Mominul Haque has been appointed as captain of Bangladesh Test side unexpectedly after Shakib Al Hasan got banned by ICC before India Test series in 2019. In the forthcoming red-ball series against West Indies after the corona break Mominul is getting Tigers’ powerhouse Shakib by his side.
During the third ODI Shakib suffered a groin injury, at first it seemed serious but later it was known that Shakib's injury was not that serious. However, Shakib was not seen to be 100% fit in practice but the captain is hopeful and excited about his return.
“Of course, although you have asked the question too late [Smile]. I think he's two in one, the coordination of the team is very good in his presence in both batting and bowling. Sorting the team becomes easy for the captain. This is a good opportunity for me as a young captain. I hope he will play,” Mominul said in a virtual press conference.

However, many experienced West Indies cricketers did not come to Bangladesh due to corona concerns but Bangladesh's Test captain is not taking the West Indies team lightly. Instead, he sees the game against them as a challenge.
"If you think of International cricket, it is always challenging for any team. If everyone is from the under-19 team, that’s still challenging. There is pressure here, there is expectation. So I see it as a challenge. I don't think the team is good or bad.” Mominul added,
The highest Test ton holder (9) Mominul’s captaincy record is not good as his batting. Tigers have lost three innings defeat under him out of four Test. India and Pakistan both beat them in their soil, while he clinched against Zimbabwe in Bangladesh last March. The journey of Muminul's captaincy is going to start again on Wednesday with this series.
