Bangladesh national women’s cricket team players finally returned to cricket after a four-month corona-enforced break following their male national counterparts.
Women’s cricketers have started their individual training session with fitness at two different venues across the country today.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) women’s wing allowed its national cricketers to have started individual fitness training for which the BCB kept open three different venues in Dhaka, Bogura and Khulna across the country for the women’s cricketers in the aspects of the women’s players’ plea.
Of them, the individual training sessions have begun in Dhaka and Bogura respectively.
A total of seven players, including five in Dhaka and two in Bogura took part in the opening day sessions.

Bangladesh pace spearhead Jahanara Alam , Shamim Sultana, Nahida Akhtar, Lata Mondal and Sarmin Supta had their opening day individual training session under the BCB-appointed trainers at the National Cricket Academy and Indoors of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS).
The fitness training session in Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium will open on Monday, where captain Salma Khatun and all-rounder Rumana Ahmed enlisted their names for the much-needed training session.
It is learnt from women’s wing sources that the cricketers informed the BCB via women’s wing expressing their interest and eagerness to have individual training sessions like its male counterparts.
At Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura, Sharmin Sultana and Khadija Tul 'Kubra held their fitness training under the supervision of the district coach.
After finishing the opening day’s practice session, all-rounder Nahida Akhtar said they are starting to prepare themselves though they don’t know the exact date of playing their games.
“We did some sessions of sports psychology a few days back from where we have learned how we could be mentally stronger during this period. We don’t know when the situation will be fixed,” said Nahida Akhtar.
Even though they were in home quarantine, some of them have been working on fitness as per their ability for which the BCB trainers gave different directives how they will do during the moment of crisis. As per the guideline, they have tried to work on it.
They are happy to get a chance to bowl in the grassy field after a long break beside their male counterparts for whom they rarely get a chance to have practice in the Home of Cricket.
“We’ve done some free hand exercises that BCB trainers gave us on the stroke of the corona break. We could have got a chance to bowl after a five-month break. Initially it was a bit of a pain for us. Hopefully it will gradually be easy if we can do it consistently. You all know, the corona situation spread around the world, as a cricketer we have to accept it,” she added.
