State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell has congratulated Shakib Al Hasan to be named the second ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) of the 21st century in ODI cricket by Wisden Cricket Monthly.
The magazine published the MVP of the modern century in their 33 edition where it was done with a joint study with the cricket statistics organization Cricviz.
The mercurial all-rounder adjudged the best sixth player in Tests with 84.2 points. Former South African fast bowler and captain Shaun Pollock got .7 points more than Shakib to be placed fifth.

“I congratulate Shakib Al Hasan to be named the second ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) of the 21st century in ODI cricket by Wisden Cricket Monthly. It’s great and cheering news for us all during the nightmarish time of the COVID-19,” said Sports Minister Zahid Ahsan Russell.
“It’s a great achievement for us. The position of Bangladesh in World cricket is consolidated further through this achievement of Shakib Al Hasan. I hope Shakib will soon return to cricket and will demonstrate his outstanding performance like the erstwhile occasion,” Russell said in his congratulatory message.
“I believe Shakib will also maintain his success in future. Shakib placed himself such a height by dint of his intelligent, quality, perseverance and effort,” he added.
Considering the statistics of the last 20 years, the over century-old cricketers’ Almanack, Wisden, has published this credible list.
However, the left-hander’s name could not be found in the top 10 in the T20 list. Former skipper of England, as well as pace-bowling all-rounder Andrew Flintoff tops the ODI list of ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the 21st Century although Flintoff is only 0.5 points ahead than Shakib.
