Don’t judge a cricketer with one or two matches- Minhajul

Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin indicated that they are not in a hurry give chances to young cricketers as they are ready to wait and groom him properly.
Quite a few players have done remarkably well in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League that includes the rise of young left-arm pace bowler Mehedy Hasan Rana.
Rana, who is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing BBPL with his 12 wickets, showed a lot of promise for Chattogram Challengers in the ongoing BBPL that included two man of the match awards from the seven games.
However, Minhajul feel that it is not right to judge a player just by seeing him perform in one or two games as he feels international cricket is very different playing in tournaments like BBPL.
‘’We have to consider many things. Representing a country and playing against a team, is something else. Many players performing at high quality at domestic level but they are not able to perform in international level,’’ said Minhajul.
‘’So we have to consider many things before preparing a squad. We are definitely considering the young players. Most importantly, many HP players played really well. We are able to see the players [performing] that we have nurtured at HP level, this is a positive side,’’ he said adding that the youngster need to have big goals so that they can serve the national team for a long period of time.
‘’Any young players will have to set his mind to play standard cricket for 15 years. It is not possible to understand the level of a player with one or two matches. A player has to set a goal of 15 years at the domestic level and 10 years for international cricket. so that if he enters into the team once, he can serve the team for 10 years at least. Without these goals, the performance will never have enough standard. So it is not possible with one or two matches to consider a player. He has to be prepared for three formats. He has to play well in all three formats. Then you can think, how much he is able to win the match.
