Prime Bank off to winning start in DPL’19

Prime Bank Cricket club started their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2019 campaign with a 2-wicket win over Khelaghar Samaj Kayyan held today in Mirpur.


An all-round performance by Ariful Haque helped Prime Bank to attain two full points. The all-rounder snared 4-24 to caused havoc on Khelaghar batting line-up as they were eventually all dismissed for 195 in 46.5 overs. Later, his unbeaten 32 helped the side knocked off the target in 47 overs in a nail-biting finish to the game. On the other side, Amit Majumder was the highest scorer for Khelaghar with 36 while their Indian recruit Ashok Maneria scored 35.


Earlier, medium pacer Ariful dismantled Khelghar top-order before leg-spinner Alok Kapali who finished with 3-20 took care of the middle order. Ariful however, was relentless and also cleaned up a tail of Khelagahar in a show of disciplined bowling. Captain Nazimuddin was the other notable contributor for Khelaghar with 29. Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan were 195.


In chasing a competitive total of 196, Prime Bank got off to a solid start as skipper Anamul Haque and Rubel Mea added a 63-run partnership in their opening stand. But, Robiul Haque broke through with the wicket of Anamul (37) while Mosaddek Iftekhar dismissed Rubel Mea after he scored the team’s highest 46.

The things seemed to go in the right direction until Khelaghar’s tall pace bowler Irfan Hossain showed the side a glimmer of hope. He sliced the middle order in a gem of pace bowling and Prime Bank lost 36 runs for five wickets to leave the game in parity. Ariful then stood tall to help the side get over the line, hitting 32 off 51 with one four and a six. Prime Bank finally ended the game at 196 for 8. Irfan took 3-40 while Robiul returned figures of 2-40.
