While the wicket of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been the center of all discussion following a string of low scores, Habibul Bashar Sumon found problems in batsmen’s temperament to thrive in this sort of wicket.

The former skipper and currently the selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held the batsmen responsible for not showing enough smartness to try to cope with the nature of the wicket by stating that the batsmen can’t understand how to bat in this wicket.

“You have to adjust with the pitch sometimes that we can’t do. You can’t expect that all pitch will provide you 180/190 score. When the wicket isn’t such batting friendly, you have to adjust with you that way what I think we can’t do,” he told the reporters on Wednesday at Sylhet District Stadium.

“The problem is when even in wicket not conducive to the batting, we are trying to bat treating it like batting friendly wicket. That’s why we are seeing such sort of low scores in every match. But if the match can adjust with it, it will be good for them.”

According to Bashar, also the technical director of Khulna Titans the middle order batting of every team in BPL was quite frustrating.

Bashar’s team recorded their first victory on first day of Sylhet phase, defeating Rajshahi Kings by 25 runs after a four straight losses. Bashar pointed out their middle order’s fragility in their downfall in the tournament.

“Middle order batting has been frustrating in this BPL. Not only the Khulna Titans, every team also faced this problem in this BPL. As I felt that if our middle order could bat well, our position wouldn’t have that bad. However we needed a victory what we found at last and I think it will inspire the team to come with better performance in the next matches,” Bashar remarked.

As revealed by the batsmen and even the people involved with the BPL expected that the tournament will see a run-glut in Sylhet phase of the tournament, something which was not quite materialized with two matches on the first day ended up with low scores.

Moreover on the first day of the Sylhet phase, there was no DRS, which made the task tougher for batsmen when they were in doubt about their dismissal. Tamim Iqbal was the one who was not satisfied with his leg-before decision and stood in the crease for sometimes that led to an on field fracas between him and David Warner.

To everyone’s delight nothing serious was happened after umpires took the control of the situation but unavailability of the DRS In the first day’s match in Sylhet raised an eyebrow. BCB officials however explained that they couldn’t carry all of the equipment of DRS in short time from Dhaka. The DRS advantage reinstated from Wednesday’s match.

Bashar, the technical director of Khulna Titans seemed to have short of answer regarding Sylhet wicket and DRS unavailability.

“Sylhet’s wicket normally tends to favour the batsmen as we found it every time we came here. But the first day’s wicket was not according to our expectation. However we hope from now on we’ll get the traditional Sylhet wicket.”

“And if we talk about DRS—we play with DRS and without DRS also. DRS in fact make some big difference. There must be some technical problem for which we didn’t get the DRS on day one in Sylhet. But as far as I am concerned, the DRS will from day two.
