Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan said on Friday that he was happy to follow the instructions of Shakib Al Hasan as it proved to be dividend on his debut against West Indies.

Debutant Nayeem Hasan grabbed the entire spotlight as he claimed five-for to demolish West Indies in their first innings against Bangladesh at Chattogram on Friday (November 23).

The 17-year-old tall off-break bowler, who picked 5/61, proved his worth through some marvelous display of traditional spin bowling that was too hot for West Indies to handle as they were dismissed for 246 runs that helped the hosts take a first innings lead of 78 runs.

Though West Indies came back strongly it hardly looked to take away anything from the off-spinner, who is the youngest player to pick a five-for on debut.

“It was a pleasure bowling with Shakib bhai as he was very helpful. I just wanted to follow the instruction of Shakib bhai while I was bowling,” said a shy looking Nayeem in front of a nearly house full reporters at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium

“There was no pressure as seniors were very helpful in this regard,” he added.

“I just wanted to extract some help from the wicket as it was turning. Otherwise I just wanted to bowl normally and focusing on bowling in the right areas.”

Nayeem said that the wicket through which he picked Jemon Warrican was the most satisfying for him in a match that saw as many as 17 wickets fall on the day.

“The ball which I picked though cleanly bowling out [Warrican] was my best wicket,” he said.
