The International Cricket Council (ICC), the apex body of the world cricket, has taken a new initiative in order to popularize more and bring its women’s cricket to a new height of development beside its mainstream men's cricket.

In the light of the male cricketers, the ICC has started the procedure to launch Future Tours Programme (FTPs) for the women’s cricket. Initially, though it will not be a long-term basis, the international entity is trying to devise a short-term module for it.

If the new module and plan are effectively introduced by the ICC, the teams like Bangladesh will not look to its cricket board (Bangladesh Cricket Board-BCB) or the global body to play some more matches in the international cricket arena.

The development in women’s cricket was limited to some top-notch cricket boards especially Australia, England, West Indies, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan. Cricket in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Ireland have started grooming.

The former group didn’t get much chance to play cricket whether it is domestic or international cricket arc for which they have to sit idle the most time of the year or season after playing a few matches of both international and domestic cricket circuit.

Regarding the matter of the FTP for women’s cricketers, BCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury expressed his optimism and stated that ICC is working to prepare a FTP for women’s cricket under which the number of games will be increased like the other teams for Bangladesh’s women’s cricket.

“If the FTP is surely prepared, the number of games for our women’s team will be increased,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

If the FTP is done, the schedule of a few years will be fixed on the basis of the effective discussion with the different cricket boards across the world.

But the introduction of the FTP for women’s cricket might be delayed due to the ongoing escalation of the coronavirus worldwide pandemic.

“The current FTPs for the male and women’s cricket (in limited countries) have been changed because of the hike of the devastating COVID-19 across the globe since December 2019. In such a condition, the introduction of the new FTPs for the women’s cricketers might be delayed for some more time,” BCB CEO said.

Noteworthy, it’s known to all the male national teams’ players of the Test playing nations about the schedule of the next few years’ games where, when and in which formats of games they will play round the cycle.

The ICC prepared an eight-year cycle, splitting two phases (four years) consulting with all the member countries.
