Bangladesh national women’s cricketer Nigar Sultana Joty said on Wednesday that they are eagerly waiting for sport psychologist Azhar Ali Khan to meet and attend his class.
Joty believes it will help them reduce a pall of anxiety and boost them mentally and physically what is much-needed for them to return to the field and play cricket again after a long enforced-lockdown.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has planned to hold a string of virtual training sessions with the psychologist to maintain the mental health of the cricketers of the Under-19 team and women’s team like the national team’s players.

It’s learnt from the BCB insiders that BCB meanwhile has struck a deal to organize a total of five virtual sessions with Ali Khan with the U-19 team and women’s team and there will be 25 cricketers currently in each psychology class.
“Personally I think those of us who are accustomed to being on the field, don’t stay home for so long. So I was diverting a little bit mentally, I was feeling a little worse for some time. For that reason, I also talked to the physio about what can be done,” Nigar Sultana said on Wednesday ahead of their first session that is scheduled on coming Saturday.
“I feel good since I heard that BCB is hiring psychologists for us. Because for those of us who are suffering from depression or not feeling well, it seems that mental support is very important. And if we get classes or sessions with psychologists it will be a lot of help for us. We have learned that classes with our psychologists will start from next Saturday,” Joty told Cricfrenzy.com.
Ali Khan, a Bangladesh-born Canadian sports psychologist, who previously has worked with Bangladesh’s national cricketers on two occasions, said that he is eyeing to see how the cricketers are coping with the mental pressure.
“At this moment we are mainly focusing on mental health and wellness during this pandemic and also how to prepare yourself for reopening,” Ali told cricfrenzy
