Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner has been recently confirmed to miss their Test series against England due to a knee injury. His bone defect has ruled him out for six to nine months.

Mitchell Santner’s injury requires a surgery and the bowling all-rounder will also miss the IPL 2018 for Chennai Super Kings as well.

Santner was roped in by Derbyshire as an overseas cricketer to play in the second half the season. However, he will also miss the T20 competition and the final seven matches of County Championship.

Following his injury, Santner’s move to Derbyshire has been canceled. Derbyshire is now looking for another option to replace him.

According to Derbyshire’s cricket advisor Kim Barnett, it is "desperately disappointing".

He said: “It’s desperately disappointing for Mitch, who I know was looking forward to his stint in England with Derbyshire this summer. But he must put his long-term future first.

“We are already reviewing our options for potential overseas replacements, working with John [Wright] and Billy [Godleman]. There are several options available to us.

“We have already secured our overseas for the first half of 2018 in South Africa international Duanne Olivier, who will provide an added quality seam option for the first seven four-day games and the entire Royal London One-Day Cup.
