Bangladesh in-form batter Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the Tigers in the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand.

BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Younus declared that Shanto will take up leadership and confirmed opener Litton Das, who recently became a father, opted out of the series.

Regular captain Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out of the upcoming series due to an injury on his index finger. This will be Shanto's first assignment as the Test captain, earlier, he led Bangladesh in two matches during the World Cup.

"Litton asked for leave, we gave him break for one month. Shakib is out due to injury, so Shanto will captain the side in the upcoming series," said Jalal to the press.

"Litton has asked for a month's leave. He won’t be available for two test matches. He wants to spend time with his family. So we granted him the leave," he said.

BCB wanted Litton for the second Test despite the leave. However, Litton sought leave from BCB to be with his wife and child. So, the BCB granted him parental leave for one month due to repeated requests.

“No player can be forced to play. We said that even if you don't play the first test, play the second test. He said he wanted to spend a month with his newborn child and his wife. We accepted his repeated request,” he added.

The Test series will commence in Sylhet on November 28. The second Test of the series will be played at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from December 6.
