Bangladesh's dismal performance at the World Cup has sparked lots of criticism and the batting department has to take loads of blame, especially the top-order batters, apart from other fusses.

Bangladesh became the first country to be eliminated from the World Cup when they crashed to a seven-wicket defeat to Pakistan in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz blamed his team's batters for their World Cup flop after this match, claiming "they should have taken more responsibility".

Bangladesh started the tournament well enough, beating Afghanistan by six wickets.

However, they then lost six consecutive matches, which not only ended their semi-final chances but also put the side's qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in jeopardy.

Shanto: We need to focus on strike rotation

Sarwar Imran, former Bangladesh head coach, pointed out that an unstable batting position throughout the tournament was the reason for such disaster.

“If you ask who are the top-order batsmen of India, who are the top-order batsmen of Pakistan, who are the top-order batsmen of Sri Lanka, you all can name the top-order batsman of any team playing in the World Cup. Only we cannot say who the top-order batsmen of Bangladesh are,” Imran said to the media.

Bangladesh were the last team to announce a 15-man squad, less than 24 hours before the players' departure for India.

Controversy over the axing of Tamim Iqbal and captain Shakib Al Hasan's subsequent verbal attack on the batsman created an unsettled environment.

That was reflected in performances. In a tournament which has witnessed record and rapid run-getting, Bangladesh's highest total was just 256 against India.

“We don't know who will open tomorrow or who will play first down . You can’t expect good results if your top order is not set. The first problem is Tamim's retirement. Stepped out of captaincy, unplanned top order, no one knows where they will play,” Imran added.
