Mahmudullah Riyad was 'rested' four months ago as everybody suspected that he was omitted for his poor form from Bangladesh squad but the experienced batter proved his worth yet again.

Mahmudullah played ODIs against England in February, but he missed out on the first two ODIs against Ireland the following month. At that time, the selectors said that the veteran batter has been rested to try youngsters. He was not even called up to the Ireland tour after that home series.

Mahmudullah was not in the Bangladesh team in the Afghanistan series at home and in the Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Youngsters couldn’t fill his shoes in those occasions.

However, after a decent performance in the home series New Zealand Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to name Mahmudullah in the World Cup squad.

Mahmudullah was not less discussed and criticized during his break from the national team. Despite going through tough times, this experienced batter did not say anything to the media. Coming to the press conference after scoring a century in the World Cup against South Africa on Tuesday, Mahmudullah said that he wants to say a lot but this is not the right time.

"The time that has passed has passed well, I don't want to say anything right now. Although I want to talk about many things. But it's not the right time. My goal was just to play for the team, to contribute. Throughout my career I have seen many ups and downs. It's fine,” Mahmudullah said in the press conference.

Mahmudullah said that he patiently worked on his fitness at the time of dropping out. He said, “I don't know, maybe Allah gave me strength. I tried to be fit. And I said before, I will not answer all the questions now. I will give it when the time is right, I will give it at the end,”

37-year-old veteran completed his fourth one-day international century today and his all four tons came in the ICC events.
