Bangladesh opening batter Imrul Kayes wants Mahmudullah Riyad in the playing XI for the next World Cup game against New Zealand at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday.
Chennai is known for spinning track as Imrul said in a special World Cup show with Cricfrenzy, that if he see less pacers and more spinners against the Kiwis he won’t be surprised.
“We know Chennai is a spinning track, ball turns a lot there, so if I watch two pacers play there I won’t be surprised. Taskin [Ahmed] and Mustafizur [Rahman] as pacers and Nasum’s [Ahmed] inclusion, Shakib [al Hasan]- Miraz [Mehidy Hasan] are also there, I think it will be a good balance spin attack. And Riyad bhai will be a very good option there,” said to Cricfrenzy during a Live show.

“I want Riyad bhai to play in the next game because in those kind of tracks he will be handy as a batter. He could carry the team, just good bowling won’t be enough, and you need batters who will give you runs.” he added.

Mahmudullah was dropped from the XI to make way for all-rounder Mahedi Hasan, who scalped four wickets for 71 runs from his eight overs and with bat he wasn’t impressive.
According to Imrul, Mahmudullah would have been more beneficial for Bangladesh in chasing the target of 365 runs.
“Team management actually selects the team in many ways. Looking at the wickets, looking at the opponent's bowling...if you look at Riyad Bhai’s replacement, he has taken four wickets. He may not have clicked with the bat, but he has taken more wickets than any bowler. From that point of view, the team management is successful,”
“Maybe he bowled a little expensive. But he took the wickets. I am sure if we had a batsman like Riyad Bhai, the game could have been longer, but I think Riyad Bhai was not taken for the combination.” Imrul explained.
