Bangladesh Under-19 players celebrate the wicket of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, ACC

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 17-member squad on Saturday for the upcoming Asia Cup.

After Tamim Iqbal stepped down from ODI captaincy, BCB has handed the leadership role to Shakib al Hasan yesterday [Friday].

Veteran Mahmudullah Riyad has no place in the squad, while 22-year-old opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has been called as the new face.

Despite many people saying that Mahmudullah's expertise may have helped the team in such a major tournament, he ultimately failed to make it into the side after being 'rested' following the ODIs against England at home in March due to poor performances.

Spinner Nasum Ahmed and spin all-rounder Shak Mahedi Hasan have returned to the team. Nasum played the last ODI for Bangladesh in the Ireland series last March. Mahedi last played for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup last year.
