Shreyas Iyer, the star Indian batter for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is expected to miss the entire 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and World Test Championship (WTC) due to a back injury.
According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Iyer, who has recently experienced recurrent back injuries, will have surgery and travel abroad for the procedure. The 28-year-old is anticipated to be sidelined for three months before returning to training.

Due to a back problem, Iyer had to miss India's home white-ball series against New Zealand as well as the opening Test against Australia. Later, the injury returned in the middle of the fourth Test match against Australia, preventing him from playing in the game and the ODI series against the Australians.

After consulting with medical professionals, Iyer was subsequently out from the first half of the IPL. Even though the Knight Riders had hoped he would be back for the second half of the season, it has come to light that he has not been able to train at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where he is receiving rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI's medical staff.
Prior to the IPL 2023 season, Nitish Rana was named the Knight Riders' temporary captain in Iyer's place.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of IPL 2023, after having failed to recover sufficiently from a heel injury.
