The second One Day International (ODI) between New Zealand and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a single delivery being bowled due to heavy rain at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Tuesday.

The abandonment means that New Zealand maintains their 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Kiwis won the opening encounter convincingly by 198 runs, with Harry Shipley 5-31 as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 76.

The rain played spoilsport right from the start, with the toss being delayed and eventually called off. The umpires had no choice but to call off the match as the rain continued to pour down relentlessly.

The teams will now move to Hamilton for the third and final ODI, which is scheduled to take place on Friday.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back in the third ODI to level the series.
