West Indies T20 specialist batsman Chris Gayle has expressed on Monday that Test cricket is the ultimate cricket among all formats of the game.

Speaking to Indian cricketer Mayank Agarwal for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) online show ‘Open Nets’, Gayle, who has played 103 five-day games in his roller-coaster career, said nothing beats the Test experience though he hasn’t, however, played a five-day game since 2014.

There is a lot of debate about Test cricket’s popularity as most of the Test countries do not have enough supporters to watch the Test matches but it remains full when any team plays T20 matches.

“Test cricket is the ultimate cricket. Playing Test cricket also gives you a chance, how to live life because playing five days of cricket is very challenging. It tests you so many times, makes sure you are disciplined in everything you did,” Chris Gayle said.

“It also teaches you how to rebound from a tough situation,” Gayle told in a BCCI’s online show.

The 40-year-old T20 biggest name said that the young stars focus more on Test cricket rather than just thinking of playing T20 cricket.

“Test cricket allows you to test your skills and mental toughness...Just be dedicated, enjoy what you do. Even if it’s not within the sport, there’s always something open out there for you,” the left-handed stroke-maker said.
