Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim found an unlikely buyer in Pakistani cricketer ShahidAfridi, who agreed to buy the memorabilia for his foundation at $20,000 ( Tk 17 lakh approximately).
Mushfiq put the bat, with which he scored Bangladesh’s first Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka, in auction earlier this week, but the process had to be suspended due to some fake bidding.
’I am happy that Shahid Afridi bhai brought the bat for the noble cause. He sent me an offer letter to buy it for USD 20000,’’ said Mushfiqur in a Facebook live.
Mushfiqur added that he was disappointed that he could not find a reason why fake bidders tried to disrupt it.
‘’I just want to say not because of me but whenever someone tries to come up with some such initiatives if you don’t participate its ok but don’t try to disrupt it,’’ he said.

Afridi said he is happy to be part of the initiative.
‘’Mushfiq what you are doing for your people is fantastic. Real-life heroes do this kind of works. We are passing a tough time. In this kind of time, we need each other helps. The love and affection I had from Bangladesh and from you guys all the time I will remember that all the time. I want to be a part of your this journey by buying your bat on behalf of Pakistan. Me, my Shahid Afridi Foundation and Pakistan is with you. If Allah wants then he will protect us from this disease and then we will again see each other on the cricket field, thank you,’’ said Afridi.
The auction was jointly operated by his management partner NIBCO, Sports for Life and Pickaboo.com.
Chief executive officer of Pickaboo.com, Morin Talukder, told New Age that after some initial hiccups they finally got the right buyer in ShahidAfridi Foundation, who confirmed their interest through official letter.
‘We have received email in official letterhead from ShahidAfridi foundation. They confirmed that they will be buying the bat for $20, 000,’ he said.
ShahidAfridi Foundation was initiated in 2014 by former Pakistan cricketer ShahidAfridi to carry out philanthropic activities in Pakistan and abroad.
