Bangladesh women’s team received a huge blow as the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers, which was to be held from July 3-19 in Sri Lanka, has been postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ICC announced on Tuesday that the 10-team event - involving Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United States, West Indies and Zimbabwe - would have determined the three remaining teams to complete the roster for the ICC Women's World Cup 2021.

Bangladesh women’s team were eyeing to take part in the tournament to regroup them after a disappointing campaign in the ICC World Twenty20 where they failed to win a single game apart from earning success in the warm-up game against Pakistan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s women’s wing head Nadel Chowdhury admitted that it was a loss but added that he don’t see any other alternatives.
‘’Of course, it’s [postponement of the qualifier is a loss] but there is no other alternatives considering the ongoing pandemic,’’ said Nadel.
‘’We were looking forward to play the tournament leaving behind our World Cup disappointment but that seems to be delayed through the postponement,’’ he said.
The ICC also announced the postponement of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Europe Division 2, which became the latest to join a list of ICC qualifying events in 2020 that have been deferred. Several regional qualifying events (from May to August) leading to ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 were postponed earlier, along with matches of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League.
