CWAB urges CCDM to resume DPL after Eid

Cricket Welfare Association Bangladesh official said on Saturday that they have decided to request Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis to resume Dhaka Premier League, country’s traditional 50-over tournament, after Eid ur Fitr complying health regulations.


’We have decided to sent a letter to CCDM to resume DPL after Eid complying health regulation,’’ said Debabrata after the meeting on Saturday.


‘’ We want the DPL to resume as per the directives of the government. The government has relaxed a lot of things. They are opening up the garments factory with the standard of COVID rules.

‘’In cricket field 22 player’s play and one player can  distance themselves with other players too so I feel  we can start playing cricket with a following of government rules,’’ he said.


CWAB, which also represents Bangladesh in player’s global body FICA, took the decision after the meeting of the executive members and the newly formed committee comprising current and former star cricketers along with cricket organisers to raise fund to help those have found them in big trouble in this coronavirus pandemic.


Debabrata Paul, member secretary of CWAB, said that cricketers like Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque attended the online meeting where the resumption of DPL was tabled up along with other issues.


CCDM postponed DPL for an indefinite period on April 15 as per the government directive with the growing concern of coronavirus in Bangladesh.



CCDM initially postponed DPL on March 16 after the first round match of the competition but later decided to postpone it for indefinite period after coronavirus crisis turn from worse to bad. The resumption of DPL is important as it is considered to be the major source of income for large section of cricketers.


Meanwhile, BCB on Saturday announced that "BCB President declares one-time monetary support to non-contracted Dhaka Premier League cricketers  though the amount was not disclosed.
