England Test skipper Joe Root is eyeing to play Test series against West Indies and Pakistan this summer, even at the cost of two months of quarantine of the whole team.

Where sport is searching its way back, England cricketers learned this week that they can line up a squad of up to 30 players for the six Tests at the Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford from the coming 8 July.

The top-order batsman Joe Root said to a leading English media that he is optimistic about the matches and if the matches don't take place then it would be a shame for him.

“I’m optimistic about it. It would be a real shame if it doesn’t happen. The public are desperate for some live sport and the guys are missing it,” Root said.

Although, Root is concerned about safety rules for all those who will be involved and is well aware of the conditions that may apply.

“The players would be sectioned off in one part of the hotel and would be in isolation together. There would be no interaction with the media, the TV crews or even the opposition when off the pitch. We would have separate lunchrooms. It would have a different feel to it but it’s probably manageable. Hopefully, that is the case,” The right-hander added.

However, if both West Indies and Pakistan buy into this scheme then England’s players could be locked down for as long as two months. And England players are also keen on playing and this was also reflected by the pacemen Mark Wood.

Wood said that being into locked down for two months in hotels in Southampton and Manchester wouldn't be a problem for him as long his family and everybody is safe.

“It would be very hard but as long as the environment is safe, my family are safe and everybody else there is safe then I’d be willing to do it," Mark Wood said.

The guarantee of West Indies to accept the proposal is so dimmed, given how the UK is mostly affected by the Covid-19 in Europe. Root believes that cricket should not be subjected to any unusual restrictions because of the pandemic.

“We have just tried to present the likely environment to see if it’s a possibility for them. If the game itself is to be compromised, then we shouldn’t be going," Joe Root concluded
