Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Champaka Ramanayake is all set to be the next head coach of the BCB’s High-Performance Unit, said HP chairman Naimur Rahman.
Champaka, who is working with BCB for a long time, returned to Bangladesh two years ago as head bowling coach of HP Unit.
Champaka first came to Bangladesh in 2008 and since then worked at various level before he went back to Sri Lanka to join the national cricket team as their bowling coach.
The head coach post went vacant after BCB decided not to continue with Simon Helmut, who was in-charge of HP Unit for last couple of years.

BCB tried to hire Paul Nixon as a replacement of Helmut but their effort went in vain as the Englishman refused to join BCB citing personal reasons.
‘’Champaka is working with us for long time and he has good relationship with the players so naturally he is front runner to take up the head coach role,’’ said Naimur.
‘’We will make a decision after talking with BCB president Nazmul Hassan,’’ he said.
The High-Performance Unit is expected to run a four-month camp from May.
Meanwhile, Champaka said that he is confident about getting the post of the HP head coach considering his performance during the last two years.
‘’I personally wanted to be head coach of HP team and I have good knowledge about the boys. I have worked with them in Academy and HP team for last two years,’’ said Champaka.
‘’We have been champion in Emerging Asia cup and SA games and this makes me hopeful of getting the head coach of HP team. I also know that they approached Paul Nixon for the post but he refused. I would be thankful if board keep faith in me,’’ he said Champaka.
