Tigers remain consistent with wayward bowling

Bangladesh bowling misery continues even after the World Cup as Sri Lanka posted 314-8 in the three-match series opener at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.
Kusal Perera looked to be in a murderous mood them against the toothless attack of Bangladesh that never looked to pose any threat in the opponent dressing room.
Bangladesh surely missed Shakib’s left-arm spin especially in sub continental conditions but as a bowling attack they never seemed to have the proper mind-set to give their opponent a run for their money.
While in the warm-up game Rubel Hossain did a decent job with the new ball by providing two early breakthroughs while Mustafizur Rahman also bowled well and picked up a wicket it was not the case in the series opener.
The way they tried to operate suggested they had long way to go to create an impact as a bowling unit as none where interested to penetrate through Sri Lankan bowling line-up.
Rather on the contrary, Shafiul Islam bowled well on his coming back game as he returned to the ODI set-up after a gap of three years, picking up … wickets.
Bangladesh pace bowlers did not look impressive in the World Cup as they failed to provide the opening blow and only did the damage in the latter part of the game and that was the same case against Sri Lanka as well.
While in World Cup they did not bowl at the back of length and instead bowl short or too full against Sri Lanka they tried to bowl back of a length in a placid wicket at Premadasa and batman could easily hit them on the up.
Bowling in partnership was the need of the hour to get out of the precarious situation but that looked far from reality.
The importance of bowling in partnership is that it creates pressure on the opponent if both bowlers bowls with the same intensity because if one bowler bowls well but another is giving away runs then it will difficult to create pressure and it seemed to be the case when Tigers were bowling.
Pace bowlers never looked to be bowling according to their field while they gave away too many for the batmen to free their arms as wicket had very little to assist.
The spin options failed to have any variations and there was lack of variations as they opted to bowl to straight and into the pads.
While it can be a good move in low and slow wicket that is available at their own back yard it never looked to be a proper plan in the placid wicket at Premadasa and as a result whenever the batsmen got out of their wicket they managed to hit ball somehow as they were not afraid of turn and bounce.
The death-overs bowling always remained a big issue and somehow Tigers managed to pull things back after 35 overs and that probably played a part behind restricting Sri Lanka from posting over 350 marks.
Shafiul looked to be the only exception as he managed to bowl properly and as a result picked three wickets in the end.
