Bangladesh’s middle order batsman Mohammad Mithun is confident that Bangladesh team has enough quality in their batting line up to handle Afghan spinners. Afghanistan has some quality spinners in their bowling line up, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi. They all are quality spinners and renowned all over the World. But Mithun believes its in their genes to play spin well, and Bangladeshi batsmen have the skills and confidence to do so.
“Bangladesh has always played spinner really good, even though Afghanistan has some World Class spinners but when you get a rhythm in batting whatever it may be spin or pace adjusting to it is not that hard. Actually, batting is all about confidence when a batsman has peace of mind he can adjust it.” Said Mithun.

Statistics also suggest Mithun’s claim that Bangladesh plays spin well. In this ongoing World Cup, Bangladesh just lost five wickets against spinners in their first five matches. In those matches, they played quality spinners like Imran Tahir, Adil Rashid, Adam Zampa and Mitchel Santner.
Bangladesh’s batting has also been in good nick in this World cup. Bangladesh scored thee 300+ scores in their first five matches. They chased down 321 runs against West Indies and scored 333 runs against Australia in a lost cause. Number one all-rounder from Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan is the second highest run-getter of this World Cup with two back to back centuries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has also scored a century in the last match against Australia.
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in their seventh World cup match at Southampton. Bangladesh is currently at the fifth position of the point table with five points and Afghanistan are at the bottom of the table with no points. It’s a must-win game for Bangladesh if they want to progress into the semi-final.
