Bangladesh will lock horns with West Indies in their fifth World Cup match today ( Monday) at Taunton.  Both Bangladesh and West Indies accumulated 3 points so far, so a win in this match is a must for them to progress into the semifinal.

West Indies dominated over Bangladesh in the past but in recent years Bangladesh had upper hand over the Caribbean side. Bangladesh have recently won their first ever tri-series title by beating West Indies in the final.

Bangladesh is currently in the 8th ranked team in the World with 85 points and West Indies are at the 7th position in the ranking column with 86 points.  So, from the ranking, it is seen that the difference isn’t that much between this two teams.

Now let’s look at some of the interesting stats between these two sides:

1.            Last nine Matches:  This stat is very satisfying for the Tiger fans, among the last 9 matches, Bangladesh have won 7 of matches and lost just two. From 2018 Bangladesh has shown their superiority over the West Indies.  Bangladesh beat West Indies in the three matches they faced each other in Ireland just before the World Cup. Bangladesh also defeated West Indies 2 times in Bangladesh in 2018. Based on this stat Bangladesh is a clear favorite over the West Indies.

2.            Total matches: Bangladesh and West Indies faced each other 37 times in the ODI cricket, in this time Bangladesh have won 14 times and West Indies 21 times. Most of the West Indies win came in the 1999-2007 period. In this period, Bangladesh didn’t win a single match against West Indies.

3.            In World Cup: Bangladesh and West Indies faced each other four times in the World Cup. They met first time in 1999 World Cup where West Indies won the match by  7 wickets. Bangladesh’s current pace bowling Courtney Walsh was the man of the match in that match, he took 4 wickets by giving only 25 runs. Their second meeting in World Cup 2003 was abandoned due to rain. The third time they collided in 2007 World cup where West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 99 runs. But the greatest shame West Indies gave Bangladesh in 2011 World cup in front of their home crowd. West Indies packed Bangladesh in 58 runs in that World Cup, it's still the lowest ODI run in the history of Bangladesh cricket.

4.             Individual performance in the World Cup: Ramnaresh Sarwan has the highest individual score in this World Cup fixture. He scored 91 runs against Bangladesh in 2007 World Cup. No one has scored any century yet in this World cup fixture. For Bangladesh Mehrab Hossain Opi is the highest scorer in this fixture with 64 runs in 1999 World Cup. Suleman Benn has the greatest bowling figure(18-4) in this fixture, in that catastrophic match of 2011. Courtney Walsh has the second greatest bowling figure in this World Cup fixture ( 25-4 ).

5.            Overall most runs:  For Bangladesh Tamim Iqbal has scored most runs against West Indies. He has scored 885 runs against West Indies in his career and has an average of 40.22 against them. For the West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman, Shai Hope has scored the most runs against Bangladesh, he scored 662 runs against the Tigers in just 9 matches and has a whopping average of 94.57.
